Backend and systems engineer, ~3 years. Two things worth pointing at:
I scaled a C++ TLS WebSocket gateway from 200 to 5,000 concurrent clients on a zero-trust network access product, through connection pooling, network I/O, memory work and a threading redesign. Same job, I got the C++ client running on Solaris for a banking client after the task had stalled between a few engineers. The vendor's tunnelling API documentation was wrong, so somebody had to sit down and find out what those calls actually did against the real OS.
At my current job I built an email infrastructure platform on my own, 131K lines in about two months. FastAPI, Postgres, Redis and Celery for the control plane, driving KumoMTA edge nodes across several regions, plus the agent daemon that runs on each node, plus the DNS and deliverability automation (SPF/DMARC/DKIM publishing, warmup cycles under a Redis lock, blacklist monitoring). It runs at 200K+ emails a day across 1,000+ domains and beat the Salesforce tool it replaced on campaign response rates.
The work I like is where something is measurably too slow or too fragile and the fix turns out to be a few layers down, in the connection pool or the event loop or the index. Also happy to talk about Kafka pipelines feeding ML training and inference, which I built for a multi-tenant device profiler.
On logistics: I can invoice directly as a contractor, or go through whatever EOR you already use. Deel, Remote and Oyster all cover Pakistan.

Senior+ frontend-leaning product engineer with 10+ years of experience. I’m passionate about complex user-facing products where UX, frontend architecture, performance, and business needs are a must!
I led the UI kit initiative that evolved from a DX tool into an important core layer for how the company plans and ships features. It was later integrated into the frontend committee to improve adoption and involvement and to drive frontend development at the company.
I also built various screen-recording tools using FFmpeg and Web Workers, and recently built a tool with Tesseract.js for OCR to quickly understand the screen and recognize patterns, then confirm them with more powerful OpenAI Vision for further processing.
I’m seeking new, complex challenges that require deep knowledge of the client-facing side of engineering, and I'm ready to join as a full-time senior+ frontend product engineer.
Senior Product Engineer with 7+ years full stack experience. I have mostly worked with small teams of larger companies. I enjoy working on developer tools and products that we as engineers use ourselves. Ideally, I would like to contribute to open source more. Crystal-lang has been my latest fascination!

A passionate problem solver with over fifteen years of experience, currently a founding engineer at a self-funded startup building a design and prototyping tool. Before that, I worked mainly as a full-stack engineer at SaaS companies.
Problem solving for me does not stop at the product/code, I'm always finding ways to improve the development process or help colleagues get unstuck by mentoring and coaching. Also I'm not afraid to learn a new programming language/framework or to dive into the infrastructure.
Are you looking for a seasoned, product-oriented software engineer who cares about user experience and can drive a feature from idea to implementation?
I've been working for equity and now I'm looking for a full-time, long-term remote role that pays. Preferably with a SaaS company working in European time zones (CET/CEST +/- 2 hours).

Applied physicist and engineer, 15+ years. Put me on a messy, physical, high-consequence problem that crosses disciplines and has to ship — not demo.
Recent: 6 years at Agilent building production ML over instrument telemetry — fleet-wide failure prediction, and a RAG/LLM system for 300+ field engineers taken from prototype to production (including the confidence logic for when it answers vs. hands off to a human). Cut data-prep time 8x.
Before that I built scientific instruments from scratch — a fiber-based STED nanoscope and an OCT microscope — so I know data from the sensor up, not just after it lands in a warehouse. Earlier: DoD hardware reliability (former TS/SCI), precision timing, published detector-physics work.
Strongest where software meets the physical world: instrumentation, sensor data, ML that has to be right because being wrong has consequences. I own problems end to end, and I'll tell you when the result isn't trustworthy yet.
Open to full-time or contract. Health/medical-device mission a strong plus.

Trustworthy output from untrustworthy data. I build systems that catch what's silently wrong — a dead sensor nobody noticed, contradictory records, a garbled scan, a confidently-wrong model — so it surfaces as a flag today, not a six-month catastrophe.
I use LLMs where they earn their place (development, meaning, embeddings, plain-language access to jargon-locked data) and keep them out of decisions and the data flow, which stay deterministic and verifiable. An LLM can help you find the answer; it can't be the answer.
Senior systems engineer, multiple AI cycles of judgment on what survives the hype and where it breaks. Currently turning messy Polish legal PDFs into a correctness-checked graph — the hard part is the verification, not the AI. Previously I built a legislative-notification service that ran autonomously in production for over three years before I retired it. I've written about where AI coding agents actually fail and why verification is the real work: https://walat.eu
Best fit when: correctness matters, the data is real-world-messy, and you want someone who names what doesn't work and why.
Location: Bucharest, Romania (relocating to Lisbon, Portugal in November) Remote: Yes (remote only) Willing to relocate: Already relocating to Portugal in November — no further relocation Technologies: Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL (partitioning, query/performance tuning), OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Kafka, Sidekiq, Redis, pgvector/RAG, Docker Résumé/CV: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tR_dLSXezY31gFgmA_BUTWDL... Email: [email protected]
Senior Ruby/Rails engineer, 11+ years. My specialty is data-heavy Rails: making it fast, and making it correct.
- Partitioned PostgreSQL at scale — ~330M rows / ~220GB in production, entity resolution and duplicate-merging across 100M+ row tables - Query performance — 5–40x speedups by restructuring schemas and moving hot paths off Postgres onto OpenSearch - Billing engines — rebuilt one for ~10x faster calculation and ~50% smaller database (ActiveRecord→ROM), another for a 5x speedup on the bill pipeline - Recently — pgvector/RAG inside Postgres, LLM integration in Rails (RubyLLM, MCP tooling)
Likely a good fit if you have a Rails app outgrowing its database, a billing or usage-metering system that's slow or subtly wrong, or you want RAG without bolting on a separate vector DB.
Open to full-time or contract. 4+ hours of daily overlap with US East now; the Lisbon move in November adds 2 more. I invoice through a registered sole proprietorship with a W-8BEN on file — no US withholding under the treaty, nothing for a finance team to set up.

Hi, I'm Harry Altman! I was the maintainer of Truffle Debugger (https://github.com/ConsenSys-archive/truffle/tree/develop/pa...), a Solidity smart contract debugger, for 5 years. I eventually ended up writing my own decoding and encoding libraries to support it, as well as a bunch of other things.I'm good at this sort of nitpicky work, spotting and thinking about edge cases. I like getting things exactly right, even though that obviously isn't always possible due to various constraints. I've been kind of wondering if I should get into embedded development; I find it appealing when things are low-level or similarly constrained. I've beaten Microcorruption. :) (The original levels, I haven't played the new ones.)
I'm also quite interested in unusual or obscure data formats, and working on Truffle Debugger and its associated libraries certainly involved a bunch of having to figure undocumented formats and interfaces. :) I put down above what languages I've worked substantially in but I'd say I'm a generalist and will figure out whatever you give me (I knew approximately no Javascript, Typescript, or Solidity when I started working at Consensys).
I'm a mathematician by background and in my spare time, so after the Truffle Debugger project was shut down I took some time off to focus on my mathematical projects, including old ones I've been shepherding through publication. But now I'm looking for work again! If you need someone like me, I'm available for hire!

Senior full-stack Rails engineer, 9 years commercial. I ship AI features into production SaaS — not demos.
Most recent: Review Copilot, an AI review-analytics app live on the Shopify App Store, built and shipped solo end to end. Rails 8 backend, plus a DistilBERT multi-label classifier I fine-tuned via knowledge distillation and serve from a Python/FastAPI microservice, orchestrated through Sidekiq. Every recommendation cites the reviews behind it, with a verification pass that flags claims the underlying feedback doesn't support.
Before that: an AI-driven ABM platform (Rails + React) with LLM content-generation pipelines, marketplace products with payments and geolocation, and a legacy CoffeeScript → Turbo Frames migration.
Looking for senior IC work on a Rails product — ideally somewhere LLM or ML features are on the roadmap rather than bolted on.

I’m an ML Engineer with a software engineering background and an MS in EECS. My recent work has been around deep learning, computer vision and data workflows for real-world ML systems. Before moving into ML, I worked as a backend Software Engineer building payment processing systems with Java/Spring, REST APIs, and SQL databases.
I’m looking for Applied AI/ML Engineer, Computer Vision Engineer, or SWE roles. I’m especially interested in teams building practical ML systems, scalable inference/data pipelines, backend platforms, or applied AI products.

I built and operate a 106k+ LOC production SaaS on Next.js 15, Supabase and Stripe — solo. Zero "any" types in the whole codebase, 743 passing tests.
What I'm actually good at is the part that breaks after launch: the webhook replay, the downgrade that never revokes access, the export gated only in the browser, the URL fetch that can reach your metadata endpoint. I've put my own codebase through repeated adversarial audits and can share a redacted report — real findings, real severities, subject anonymised.
Available ~20-30 hrs/week, UTC+0 — good overlap with European hours and US mornings. Contract or fixed-scope. I also do fixed-price pre-launch audits (security, billing correctness, data exposure) if that's more useful than hourly.

I’m a senior engineer and software architect used to working with teams that are starting to strain under growth, complexity, or delivery pressure.
Over the last ~10 years I’ve been working with startups and established companies, primarily in roles where I take end-to-end technical responsibility: from system design through implementation and production operation, while remaining hands-on in delivery.
Recent work includes leading the architecture, implementation, and operational ownership of a distributed platform for venture capital workflows, as well as building and maintaining a survey fulfillment system. Both engagements included mentoring and coordinating engineers alongside delivery. More details can be found at https://robinsiep.com.

I enjoy solving backend and platform problems, designing APIs, building developer tooling, automating deployments and approaching development with a test first mentality. Lately I've been focused on Go, Kubernetes internals, observability and the intersection of platform engineering and AI infrastructure.

I was laid off by Cisco Meraki last summer, where I spent four years as a technical lead for the cloud side of the wireless products. I have experience in both web development and cloud infrastructure roles.
I have worked for years in open source software development. I created and ran two notable open source projects: Lita, a ChatOps framework for Ruby (https://github.com/litaio/lita) which is used by many companies for automating internal operations and workflows, and Ruma, an implementation of the Matrix protocol in Rust (https://ruma.dev/) which went on to become the basis for the official Rust SDK for Matrix.
My ideal role would be building software targeting other developers, either as a member of a developer tools team, or for a company whose products are made for developers. I'm also drawn to companies building "neutral" utilities whose value is fairly self-evident: Things like PagerDuty and Stripe which are generally useful and provide the infrastructure needed for other things to work.
I would love to use Rust professionally, but I'm fine with other languages, too. I'd also be very happy to work on a product with an amount of open source code, given my background working on OSS projects.

Data scientist with 4+ years of experience delivering production machine learning solutions to top pharmaceutical laboratories. I am able to use LLMs intelligently to create novel models with qualitative accuracy, where LLMs alone would make something that is accidentally correct at best. I have the aptitude for iterating fast in a startup environment, I was able to deliver a working product years before our closest competitor and those models have prevented millions of dollars in losses in the past 3 years with more to come.

I'm a Product Engineer and a creative based in London. I’ve built full-stack applications across web, mobile, blockchain and embedded platforms. My client-side work includes React, Electron, Roku’s Scenegraph, and native iOS development with Swift and SwiftUI, always with a strong focus on UX and design-first thinking. On the service-side, I’ve worked with traditional service hosting, containers, and serverless, including (but not limited to) AWS, GCP, Cloudflare, Workers, CloudFormation, SAM CLI, nodejs, bunjs, MySQL, Postgres, NoSQL, grpc, Redis, Docker, nginx, and a few legacy tools best left unnamed (yes, including CodeIgniter and ftp).
I’ve also developed developer tools like CLIs and SDKs, primarily Typescript/JavaScript land, and have written code in systems languages such as Rust and Zig.
I care about great UX, developer experience, documentation, rapid iteration and automating workflows with CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Bash scripts, etc).
Also familiar with modern development practices by leveraging coding agents, such as pi, opencode, claude and LLM, including kimi over fireworks inference.

Full-stack engineer, B.S. Math-CS from UC San Diego
I build and run GratMap (https://gratmap.com) a live production web app I designed, built, secured, deployed, and operate solo. React + Mapbox front end, Express/Node + MariaDB back end, on a Linux server I administer myself. Two parts I'd point at: a venue-scoring pipeline that shrinks each venue's median toward the global median in proportion to how much data it has, so a two-report venue can't outrank a two-hundred-report one; and a pre-launch security audit checking for breached-password screening via HIBP k-anonymity, rate limiting, JWT in httpOnly/sameSite cookies, ORM parameterization.
Before that I was the founding engineer at Citmit, a construction-permitting SaaS startup. I joined when they had a product plan and no engineers, built the initial codebase and infrastructure from scratch, and led a team of four through alpha. I implemented Stripe billing, an S3 document pipeline, and the application-side integration for their LLM feature.
I work in Claude Code every day and can explain and debug what comes out of it without it.

I have technical depth, good design sensibilities, and I've been building products from scratch at startups or with clients for about 10 years. I've been doing remote contract work for a while now, but I'd like to join a company again and ideally work in-person. Most likely this would be at an early stage startup, but I'm open.System design is my native mode of thinking. I'm a great person to have around if you're building something where the rules and patterns aren't established and the problems need to be worked through from scratch, whether that's interaction design, architecture or algorithms. I also know React and web technologies pretty well.
I'd been coding for maybe 15yrs before LLMs and agents hit, but I've deeply re-worked how I approach it over the past couple of years. I'm still learning and adapting as the tech develops like everyone else, but working with LLMs and agents is second nature at this point. I've tested the limits, and I've been through the pitfalls.
I have a portfolio here: https://symbolflux.com --though unfortunately it doesn't have much of anything from my AI-related work yet. Here's a writeup discussing the design of an LLM/agent system I was developing earlier in the year though: https://symbolflux.com/working-group-foundations.html

Backend engineer with ~7 years in Go and Python. Most of my work is backend systems: APIs, payments, streaming, the plumbing that has to hold up. I have a soft spot for perf-centric development
Most of what I've built recently is open source. The one with real users is decypharr, a media gateway that streams files over a FUSE layer, where I've done deep work on goroutine leaks, lock contention, and caching. I also build a handful of smaller Go tools, from a multi-protocol file server to a protobuf schema registry, all on my GitHub.

I currently lead AI solutions inside the learning org of a large business/accounting SaaS company. In practice I'm the person who takes an ambiguous "could AI do this?" and comes back with either a working prototype or a defensible reason not to build one.
Before this: eight years designing learning experiences, 14 years as a Canadian Forces communications systems tech, and sysadmin/service work.
Looking for: product or solutions roles in learning technology — LXP/LMS vendors, ed-tech, or in-house enablement teams that want someone who can build the thing and also step through the procurement, legal, and security compliance requirements when sensitive data is involved.
Who I Am: Full-Stack SWE who has proven experience taking a company from a one-person operation to multi-million dollar deals. I'm here for the entire ride, including initial development, product direction, funding, outreach, and scale.
What Makes Me Special: I've got the technical skills, people skills, and industry knowledge that differentiate a successful startup founder from a run-of-the-mill programmer. I love getting to represent my company at conferences, during demos, and in cold outreach, then coming home to grind bug fixes and feature implementations until the sun comes up. I've got the tenacity and dedication your team needs.
Who You Are: A startup in any stage from pre-seed to scale that has a killer product and needs a dedicated technical founder. You have a tight knit team that values one another and helps each another where needed. You're humble, confident, and don't need to one-up each other for the sake of ego. "Don't be evil" and putting people over profit are core tenets of your business model.

SEEKING CONTRACT WORK - Forward deployed engineer, remote, email in profile. Location: West Coast, remote only.
I'm a forward-deployed engineer. My background is 15+ years of data science, but I focus on solving problems. I work in messy, ambiguous, regulated environments. Often at a client's site, inside their systems and their data. I excavate unmapped data, learn how the team works, and ship tools that stay in production.
Deployed and still running today: Legal clause extraction and validation; site corrosion detection and management; routing and predictive-maintenance systems that stayed in service.
I compress engineering, data, and modeling into one function, owned end to end. I show up, figure out what needs to be built, and make it work.
Tooling: ML/AI, LLMs, and the engineering around them: evals, determinism, observability, guardrails. The tech is just a tool, The hard part is knowing what to build.
If you have a messy, ambiguous problem that needs someone who can embed and ship, my email is in my profile.
EDIT: Corrosion detection so people don't think I detect rust code. (Nothing wrong with that though)
