alt Hacker NewsI'm surprised nobody has mentioned Perl yet. It is named after the Parable of the Pearl from the Gospel of Matthew. But Larry Wall dropped the E because he discovered there was already another language called PEARL (a rather obscure real-time programming language from Germany)
