BTW the US is a super bad example, they all have piss poor insulation and rely on extremely wasteful heaters and ACs virtually 24/7. When I lived in Florida I was cold when it was 15c outside because the windows weren't even air tight, now in Germany I can get by without turning on the heaters until it's 0c outside

HRV don't have a lifespan of 15 years, the fan maybe, if you do 0 maintenance. HRV aren't like heat pumps or ACs, they're mostly passive, it's literally just a fan and an exchange surface, no compressor, no chemicals, &c.
