Why? People who actually write original software require many other skills in order to do so (just not, you know, marketing).

Writing software is no different than writing a novel or a music album. Its creating a product. All of these require the ability to write, but its more than just writing an essay. There are functional aspects that require different stages of planning and composition that must be put together in a way that can be maintained, described, and decomposed. Its that vision for composition and extension which requires organizational capacity drawn from lots of experience.
