I can sympathize with this, but

1) earbuds are not the only headphone style

2) listening to speakers is not a necessity.

So fine if you don't want to use earbuds, but not necessarily fine to annoy those around you with music/talk shows or whatever sounds you want to introduce to the enviroment.
