The article is fascinating, but posits that the controversy of when death begins was something of days past.

The Uniform Determination of Death Act settled it legally for the US, but only legally. Emotionally, and sometimes even practically, it remains a haunting question with answers that may be both true and false at the same time.

Sad to hear of the doctor whose career and reputation were sideswiped by popular, religious objections to his opinions on the matter.
