They did. Airpods Pro 2 has a tracker in the case, Find My can find all three pieces separately and each can make the pinging noise.
The AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods 4 WITH ANC all have cases with speakers and separate Find My integration that I belive is what you are looking for.
It’s the only reason why I have upgraded to ANC on the Airpods 4, because I don’t really like ANC, but I want the smart case.
