I saw a headline the other day suggesting excess deaths from wildfire smoke alone are already projected to cost the economy more money than many mainstream estimates of climate damages thought the total cost of damage would be.

Seems dramatic but if you assume the mainstream numbers were driven more by politics than science or economics then it makes sense.
