Generally speaking, if something is free then my attention or my data tends to be the product – and when that thing runs in the background on my Mac, has access to my microphone, my calendar data and my private meeting notes, that is potentially very scary indeed.

Transcribing is pretty simple and can be easily handled with very small/economical models.
That said, I share your sentiment. They're going to enshittify when they run out of money or sell your data.
I also think automatic meeting transcription is potentially kind of bad for us. I find that when I know it's being used I just zone out, and the question of why we are having this meeting at all comes into question? If we are just transcribing everything why not have everyone write an email?
It's free for a limited number of notes. I guess you could copypaste the note summaries out to Obsidian or something, but at that point you're better off using MacParakeet, OpenWhispr, etc.
