Some outrages are based on real things. Not everything is a moral panic. It's like saying the Epstein victims (for example) are just a moral panic because society refuses to hold the rich and powerful accountable and the news cycle moves on.
Remember when people spent hours on the weekend protesting Tesla dealerships. I guess they protected us from whatever it was. Can’t remember anymore
The risk is that reacting to the panic, states lock in laws with destructive moratoriums they politically can't back out of later.
I hope so. The worst case scenario is that it develops into something like nuclear aversion in Germany.
