I was nodding along until the NYC part. Up until ~6 months ago, NYC was more expensive than SF.
Point is the dropoff outside the city limits. NYC salaries are mostly comparable to SF at this point, while you can buy a home under $500k still within an hour commute to the city. That's a fantasy in the Bay.
