I wonder if this will allow for reviving old SRCDS (Source Dedicated Server) versions.
Older versions of popular titles like Counter-Strike: Source would still be playable on their original hardware if the old clients + servers were available. As it is now, these games are no longer playable on original early-mid 2000s hardware because Steam no longer supports Win2k/XP, and even if it did, the games themselves have been heavily patched and updated over the years and have higher system requirements. Old clients still exist (even prior to "teraleak"), but the SRCDS versions are gone as far as I can tell.
I just think it'd be fun to host retro LAN parties using the hardware and software we had back then, or even just to revisit what it was like to be a server OP in those days.
