I recently got a hybrid because I wanted better gas mileage--no more, no less. Without subsidies, I can't get the math to work for an EV.
It just depends on gas prices vs. electricity cost in your area.
For example in the US it makes perfect sense to own an EV in California, but no sense in Texas for example.
