Because people are giving them benefit of the doubt. They assume it is about something sane rather then "the goal is for some remaining humans to merge with tech as immortals and fly to the stars".

Sure, that's the goal too. No one is going to make you participate in that. Why does it bother you what people do with their own bodies?
