If the car were to only have one big EV battery, which it almost is in current regulations, then in such a crash would very likely get punctured and be even riskier fire. At end of the day, it is a motorsport and it will always have its risks.
Formula E and Extreme E have managed some pretty spectacular crashes without battery fires.
