These are truly maddening. I’ve recently fallen prey to another trick - email from a famous-ish tech person starting a new company and asking to chat, but then responding with interest just enters you into the normal pipeline with a hiring manager. Nothing wrong with that pipeline, but don’t misrepresent the outreach as an opportunity to chat with an influential person when it’s actually just an automated recruitment email.
Even better is when you get put in touch with the person's OpenClaw (or w/e agent) writing on behalf of them, as them.
Everything is wrong with this pipeline for the reason you noted. It is unacceptable.
It can be worse: Someone recently posted about going for an interview and discovering that an AI was interviewing them, complete with uncanny valley imitation human over the video call. This was disclosed to candidate, along with the strict injunction that if the candidate used AI in any way for the interview, the process would be terminated immediately.
"Impersonal lack of human touch for we, but not for thee."
