So all we have to do to come back from it is have Nuremberg style trials for GOP leadership and to ban their ideology and symbology from being displayed in the country?

Those extreme measures were the aftermath of a world war. We haven't reached that point, or even the equivalent of the Reichstag fire, at least not yet. We don't have quite as far to come back.
And they are sliding back into it again apparently.
