The fundamental malignancy here is that powerful people have become disconnected from the foundation of society. They have suffered from model collapse. They have been talking to each other in circles for too long, and doing things that make no sense to anyone outside the elite group, and because the systems that concentrate power to the top are so strong now, they continue gaining power even while messing everything up in a nominally free competitive market.
