FYI this phenomenon is also well known in my country in central/eastern Europe.
In Poland in 1990s and 2000s they were drilling and filling every piece of dental calculus. Thing which could be fixed with full hygienization. No idea if that's still a thing because I don't visit those fuckers anymore.
