I did not know about the requirement about being able to renew the domain for transfers, I was considering buying a .com for a long duration but maybe I'll hold off on that.
You can buy a .com for a long duration, just don’t make it 10 years. 8 or 9 years is plenty, and gives you room to transfer out if needed.
