I was on oxycoton (among other things) for pain relief after heart surgery, and during recovery. That lasted about a month -I was worried because of my history of substance abuse but I think between being aware of that and knowing they would not be available later gave me the will power (if you can call it that) to taper off of them without much fuss.

I agree, it depends on what else is going on -and why you're taking things. No way in hell I could have gone that month without them, that's for sure.
