the thing with the climate goal is just an arbitrary number to the person on the street.

for us that come from poor countries - it fuels degrowth. you want us to shut down coal plants & yet you don't want us to trade with china.

even in rich countries such as Germany - cost of energy has been a factor in slowing down growth because bureaucrats said so. while private planes keep flying, good keep getting shipped from overseas.

china has enabled cheap solar - which in turn has enabled cheap access to electricity. china has enabled cheap electric vehicles. for a bunch of people in 'poor' or 3rd world countries - in the next few years their first cars will be chinese EVs not Japanese 2nd hands or other 2nd hands from western countries.
