alt Hacker NewsMath is just proof of concept for the big players. The same resources could go to prompts designed to optimize the internal combustion engine or anything else nonsensical.
The biggest paradigm shift has been representing models as humans, and I don’t think that’ll fade. I highly expect the AI Model T Ford will be a generalized assistant that actually works. Likely developed by OpenAI or Anthropic. And likely 5 years from now or more.

Math was not "just" proof of concept, it was THE proof of concept, since iterating on combustion engines cannot be done nearly as efficiently.
"optimize the internal combustion engine" that requires good quality combustion simulations and iterative optimization algorithms; and we've had that for longer than the internet; that kind of work was the earliest uses of military comptuers. Why would a text model be better at it?
Maths i a cool benchmark, but has the similar benefit to software; very easy to verify.
