Based on the lie about how much it would cost, how many they could produce, and how soon they would be delivered...
Even very ugly cars will sell if they give you a really good deal for the money. The Cybertruck at $39,999 was a shockingly good deal. It was just a lie.

And sold 70,000 total. The fact that ~96.5% (likely more) of preorders were cancelled should tell you all you need to know about popularity.
